Wolves Need OT to Knock Off Bloomsburg

February 8……..Cheyney (13-8:6-2) needed overtime but still came away with a 92-78 road victory over Bloomsburg (8-12:2-6).  Tamir Smith scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Sharif Bray added a game high 24 points to pace the Wolves.  Rob Townsend scored a season high 15 points.

The Wolves built up a 16 point first half lead before settling on a 12 point advantage at halftime.  The Wolves were unable to deliver the knock out punch and the Huskies battled back.  Trailing 65-57 with seven minutes to play, the Huskies went on a 13-1 run to take a five point lead with 1:47 showing on the clock.  Bray recorded a traditional three-point play after a steal and a lay-up to cut the lead to one with 21 seconds remaining.  Trevon Johnson, led Bloomsburg with 19 points, made one of two free throws with 19 seconds to bring the lead back up to two.  Smith made a pair of free throws for Cheyney with 9 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime.  The Huskies were unable to get off a shot.

Lady Wolves Get Revenge

February 8……Angel Stephens recorded her eighth double double of the season leading Cheyney (7-13:4-4) to a 71-61 over Bloomsburg (13-7:5-3).  Stephens netted 22 points, a season high, while grabbing 11 rebounds.   Angel Henderson and Lutfiyya Muhammad scored 14 and 12 points respectively.  Stephanie Orji grabbed a 14 rebounds, the fourth time in as many games she grabbed double figure rebounds.  Earlier this season, Bloomsburg defeated Cheyney. 

Cheyney built up a nine point lead during the first half only to see the Huskies battle back to take a slim 32-31 advantage at halftime.  The Huskies extend the lead to eight outscoring the Lady Wolves 13-6 to start the second half.  However, Cheyney would then go a 15-0 run to take a 52-45 lead with 8:49 to play.  Cheyney was able to extend the lead to 13 points before settling on the 10-point margin of victory.

Bray Named PSAC Player of the Week

February 8……..Sharif Bray, a graduate a Central High School in Philadelphia, was named PSAC Player of the Week for the week ending February 7.  Bray, a junior played two years at California (PA) before transferring to Cheyney, scored 26 points, including 19 in the first half, as Cheyney raced out to a 22-point halftime lead en route to a stunning 94-62 upset of No. 15 Kutztown last Wednesday in Cheyney's only game of the week due to weather. Bray, who is second in the PSAC in scoring, also added four rebounds, four assists and four steals to the Wolves' effort. He, shot 8-of-14 from the floor (57.1 percent), including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and was 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
