Battle of the Firsts Heads to Philadelphia

August 30….Cheyney and Lincoln Universities, each claiming to be the oldest HBCU will meet on the football, Sunday, September 5 at Charlie Martin Stadium on the campus of Northeast HS in Philadelphia. 

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students (A valid student ID is required). Student tickets can be purchased at Cope Hall until September 3rd until noon or at the ticket booths on the day of the game.  Adult tickets will be made available shortly on EZ-Tixx.com.

Cheyney restored to full NCAA membership

September 1......After a three year probationary period, the full rights and privileges of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania has been restored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).   Cheyney was on probation for several academic related issues involving one specific sport. 

Cheyney created a significant number of compliance trainings which started at the top with the Council of Trustees, President’s Cabinet, and booster club. The Compliance and Academic Committee which includes representatives from the Registrar, Admissions and Financial Aid offices along with a number of other internal areas, addresses all issues that affect student athletes.  The entire athletic staff, including support staff members, takes and successfully passes the coaches exam.

Coach Marilyn Stephens to be Honored

August 30, 2010.....Temple University Hall of Famer and Cheyney University Women’s Basketball Coach, Marilyn Stephens, is one of four who will be honored on September 26, 2010 from 12 noon to 4 pm by the Philadelphia Association of Black Sports and Culture, Inc.  The event will be held at the Swan Ballroom, 2015 South Water Street, in Philadelphia, PA.

Coach Stephens is being recognized by the organization for her great achievements as an athlete; as well as for her achievements in the community.  When asked about the award, Coach Stephens said, “I am  honored  to be recognized along with Wali Jones, Ann Koger and Fred Pickett, Jr. who all have been a positive influence in my life. I thank God for blessing me and providing me the passion for giving back to my community.”
