Sports Medicine

SPORTS MEDICINE

The Department of Sports Medicine is responsible for the health and safety of all student-athletes.  The Sports Medicine staff reports to the team physician on all matters related to athletic injuries and rehabilitation and reports to the Director of Athletics for administrative direction and support.  The staff is credentialed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association as competent to evaluate, manage and rehabilitate all common athletic injuries.  In accordance with Commonwealth law, injuries to students who are not Cheyney University athletic team members may receive first aid from the sports medicine staff but must be referred to the University Health Center for all subsequent treatment.

STAFF

Scott Uderman, ATC

Scott attended Temple University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Athletic Training.  After leaving Temple he worked for Nova Care Physical Rehabilitation at various schools in the Philadelphia area.  Scott has been the Head Athletic Trainer for all of CU’s athletic teams since 1999. He has also worked since 1999 as the medical coordinator for the National Youth Sports Program at Cheyney during the summer.  Scott is currently working toward a Masters Degree in Exercise Science and Performance Enhancement.

Student Athletic Trainers are a valuable asset in the coverage of CU’s athletic teams.  Student trainers work in the training room and with the teams during practices, home and away games.

Team Physicians

The physicians at the Rothman Institute have been Cheyney’s team doctors since 1998.  Dr. Christopher J. Mehallo, D.O. has been coming to our football games and making weekly visits to the training room during football season for the last two years.  The Rothman Institute has offices at Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, PA and in Philadelphia, PA.  Also joining the staff is Dr. Robert Frederick.
