The annual Blue-White Spring Football game will take place in O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium on Saturday, April 21. Kick-off is slated for Noon. Admission to the contest is free of charge.

In anticipation of inclement weather on April 21, some of the Community Day at Cheyney University activities have been changed. As planned, the 4th annual Thornbury 5K/10K race organized by the Delaware Valley Lions Club will begin at 8 am this Saturday. Registration opens at 7:00 am in Cope Hall gymnasium. Parking is available in the Marcus Foster parking lot. This is an out and back race starting and ending at Cheyney University.

The Cheyney University football team has begun their spring workouts. The culmination of spring practice will be the annual Blue –White game slated for Saturday, April 21. The game will take place in O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium with kick-off slated for 12:00 pm.

Five home contests highlight Cheyney University’s 2012 football schedule.
Cheyney will open the season on September 1 at Lincoln. The “Battle of the First” will christen a new stadium on the Lincoln campus. Last year the Wolves defeated Lincoln 21-19 to give Coach Lockard his first collegiate victory as a head coach. “This is going to be an exciting event this year,” commented Lockard who this past winter rid himself of the interim tag. “It’s not every day that you get to be the first to play in a stadium. It will be a tremendous atmosphere.”

After a national search, Ken Lockard has been named the Head Football Coach at Cheyney University.
Last season, Lockard served as Interim Head Coach. He has been the Wolves Defensive Coordinator since 2008.

Senior Defensive Linesman Tim Hume was named All Super Region One Defensive Player of the Year by the Don Hansen’s Football Gazette. This past week Hume was also recognized by Beyond Sports Network as a D II 2nd Team All-American.

Several Cheyney players along with Coach Ken Lockard were selected to participate in the 2011 All American Bowl in Minneapolis. The game played in the Hubert Humphrey Metrodome home of the Minnesota Vikings.

Cheyney University senior defensive end Tim Hume, Gannon University defensive tackle senior Randy Colling,and University of New Haven senior offensive guard David Stedman were named Thursday as finalists for the 2011 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award.

Defensive linesman Tim Hume was selected Daktronics First Team All Super Region One by the Region One Sports Information Directors. Hume a senior from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania was previously named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Tim Hume was named PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year by the conference coaches. Hume led the conference in tackles for loss with 21.5 and led the Wolves with 6.5 sacks. The senior defensive end was also credited with 62 tackles. A captain of the 2011 Wolves, Hume ranks sixth in the country in tackles for loss at 1.95 per game. This marks the third time in his four years that Hume was named 1st team All-PSAC.

Officials from Cheyney University and East Stroudsburg University have agreed to move the start of Saturday’s football game from 1:00 pm to Noon in hopes of beating the worst of the storm heading to Eastern Pennsylvania.

Cheyney University played inspiring football against West Chester University in front of a homecoming crowd of 3,689 but fell short 23-7.Marcus Jones paced the Wolves running attack with 92 yards on eight carries. It was Tim Hume and the defense that really stood out. Hume was credited with 11 tackles including 7.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks.

The number 2 ranked Bloomsburg University Huskies defeated Cheyney University 45-10 in Redman Stadium. Almost 5,000 people were in attendance for Homecoming on the Bloomsburg campus.
