Wolves Falter Down the Stretch

November 7……Cheyney University concluded the 2009 season with a 32-12 loss to Clarion University.

Despite the loss, Angel Rodriquez passed for 124 yards.  Travis Taltoan led the receivers with five receptions for 55 yards.  Rodriguez led the running attack with 44 yards while John Newman ran for 41 yards.

Clarion struck first in the first quarter when signal caller Tyler Huether connected with Jacques Robinson on a twenty yard touchdown pass.  Cheyney got the ball rolling at the end of the first when the Wolves orchestrated an 11 play, 61 yard drive that was capped off by a Ron Hunter one yard touchdown run.

Cheyney took its only lead of the game in the 2nd quarter.  Angel Rodriguez sprinted 22 yards to put the Wolves up 12-6.  His run ended a 51 yard drive.

Despite several key defensive stops by the Wolves, Clarion was able to tie the game with 10 seconds left in the half.  The teams combined to miss four PATs in the first half.  That momentum would carry the Golden Eagles into the second half as they outscored the Wolves 20-0.

The game marked the final game for nine Cheyney seniors.  Seniors Adam Madden, Ron Hunter, Joe Morris, Norm Belton, Demel Chambers, James Parker, John Mitchell, Darrin Watson, Chris Singh, and Darryl Wilkins were recognized for their contributions to the program before the start of the game.
