January 23…..Cheyney (8-8:2-2) fell to East Stroudsburg (16-1:3-1) 77-73 in a key PSAC East contest. Sharif Bray led Cheyney with 17 points while Kevin Presbery and Tyrone Smith chipped in 14 and 11 respectively.
Cheyney jumped out to a 4-0 lead and was clinging to a 10-9 before the Warriors went on a 7-0 run to take a 16-10 lead. The Wolves battled back and the game was a see-saw affair until the three minute mark of the half. Cheyney owned a 29-26 edge after Bruce Kennedy hit a three pointer, his only points of the afternoon. However, ESU would close the half on an 11-1 run, taking a 37-30 lead into the locker room.
After Tyrone Blassingame converted one of two free throws with 15:07 on the clock the Wolves were down one, 43-42. However, six straight free throws by Warriors stretched the lead back up to seven. The Warriors were 30-37 (81%) from the charity stripe. Cheyney shot 12-18 (67%). Cheyney would not go away easily as the Wolves cut the lead to one on a three-pointer by Presbery with 4:12 showing on the clock. However, the Warriors answered with a 7-0 run to secure the game.
Cheyney will host Millersville on Wednesday night. |
