February 14……In Cheyney's first CTC track championship appearance, Lorraine Laster seized the moment to have the best meet in her career. As the top seed in the 400m, she did her job to blow out the fast heat of the 400m leading from start to finish, but fell short of the Gold by a runner in an earlier heat. She took 2nd overall. Thirty minutes later, she anchored Cheyney's first relay championship in the 4x200m in dramatic fashion. After compelling legs by Glennisha Campbell, Isabelle Cayo, and Shaina Johnson, Laster grabbed the baton 20m out of first place and had the Wolves faithful in euphoria as she out leaned two teams at the line for the victory to claim gold.
The meet also saw personal records from Isabelle Cayo(200m), Shaina Johnson (LJ), and Deraya Mosby (HJ). The Wolves finished a respectable 4th in the 4x400m relay and finished 12th out of a field of 21 teams.
"The ladies were in the Championship state of mind all week... And they performed well all over the track and in the field," commented head coach Marc Harrison. “Lorraine had a difficult task to run the 4x200 right after the 400m. We knew NJCU was the top team, but with her on it we had a chance to beat them. And we did! This was a perfect tune up for the PSAC Championships in two weeks.”
"The Lady Wolves came such a long way and definitely made a statement at the CTC Championships,” commented Laster. “I'm so proud of the team! It felt great to see the hard work to pay off by we winning the 4X200,but I can't wait to work hard and get ready show what else we can do at the PSAC Championships in two weeks."
The men’s team earned third place overall at the CTCs hosted by Wesleyan College in Connecticut. Leading the way
