Bennett’s 6-7-10 Split Rallies CU's Baker Victory

February 17……..Seeking revenge for an early season loss to Lincoln, Coach Michael Blakeney took his Cheyney bowling team to Devon Lanes for a rematch with the Lions.  Despite a 162 by Moynea Davis and a 159 by Erica Williams, Lincoln prevailed in the traditional match 747-723.

However in best of seven baker matches Cheyney prevailed 4-2.  The Lady Wolves dropped the first baker match 145-127 but then won three straight 166-148, 142-129 and 143-138.  In the fourth match, Cheyney was down three pins going into the ninth frame.  CU’s Destinee Bennett was faced with a 6-7-10 split and she delivered thrilling the small but vocal crowd.  After Lincoln opened in the tenth, Cheyney still needed 14 pins to earn the victory.  Davis stepped to the line and calmly rolled a strike.  Needing only 4 pins to put Cheyney into position to win the baker series Davis knocked seven pins downs.

“After leaving the split coach pulled me aside and said you got this,” commented Bennett.  “I had all the confidence in the world.  It was thrilling to see all three pins fall.”

Cheyney dropped the fifth baker 145-120 but then proceeded to lead wire to wire in the sixth baker cruising to a 157-119.

“This should propel us this weekend in Baltimore.  I’m hoping the girls rally around this victory and perform well at Morgan State in our season ending event,” stated Blakeney.
