February 24….Cheyney University women’s basketball play-off bid was dealt a serious blow falling to Kutztown 75-72 in a key PSAC East contest.  Lutfiyya Muhammad led the Lady Wolves with 22 points as three of her team mates netted double figures.  Angel Stephens and Stephanie Orji tallied 14 apiece and Charnelle Taylor equaled her career high 12. 

Cheyney jumped out to a 19-10 lead seven minutes into the contest and were able to stretch the lead to 10, 28-28 with 9:21 remaining in the first half.  Still sporting an eight point lead 4:30 minutes later the Golden Bears went on a 14-7 run to close out the half and cut the deficit to one, 41-40.

Neither team owned a second half lead more than four points.  Trailing by three with 1:46 remaining, Muhammad stepped to the final line and converted a pair of free throws.  However, a quick jumper by Kutztown put the lead back at three before Taylor made one of two from the charity stripe.   Another quick basket by the Golden Bears pushed the lead up to four their largest of the game.   A subsequent lay-up by Muhammad and a Kutztown foul shot left the Lady Wolves down three with seconds remaining.  Cheyney’s shot at the buzzer was off the mark. 

Cheyney concludes the regular season on Saturday afternoon at home against Shippensburg.  Cheyney will honor the seven seniors on the squad with a pre-game ceremony.  Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
