Close But No Cigar

October 13, 2011

Cheyney University fell to Lincoln University in a highly contested volleyball match 3-0. “This match could have gone either way,” commented senior captain Dejanirah McIver. “We played well but had to many errors that we could not overcome.”

Despite a season high 115 attacks the Lady Wolves fell by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-14.

In the first set the Lady Wolves exploded out of the gates to a 5-0 lead but the Lady Lions rallied to tie the game at five. With the score tied at 19, Lincoln went on a 5-0 run to take control of the set and come away with the victory.

Cheyney was led by McIver’s 29 attacks and 13 digs. Travonya Kenly added 28 attacks and fours service aces.
The Lions secured their first victory of the season thanks in part to five kills and 23 attacks by Cynthia Johnson. Sharay DuBose was credited with nine assists and 13 digs while teammate Zakiya Williams tallied 18 digs.

Cheyney is back in action on Tuesday night as PSAC foe Millersville invades Cope Hall for a double header. The match starts at 5:00 pm.
