Jason Sabb scored the first six points of the game and finished with a team high 26 but it wasn’t enough as the Wolves fell 76-70 to Bowie State (3-0) in the first round of the Fresh Coast Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Cheyney (0-4) will play Fisk University in the consolation game on Saturday afternoon.

With 8:30 to go in the first half the Wolves made three consecutive unanswered three pointers (two by Brandon Baylor one by Anthony Juene) to jump out to a 12 point advantage, their biggest of the half before settling on a 23-31 at intermission. However, the Bulldogs would answer knotting the game at 31 three minutes into the second half.

Bowie took their first lead of the game at the 2:09 mark when they sunk a pair of free throws to turn a one point deficit to a one point lead. The free throws started an 8-0 run giving the Bulldogs a seven point advantage. Juene drained a three pointer for the Wolves to cut the lead to four with :11 seconds to play and Bowie converted a pair of free throws in the final seconds to preserve the win.

Baylor would add 14 points while Rashaad Slappy and Juene came off the bench to contribute 12 and 11 points respectively.

Bowie dominated on the glass out-rebounding Cheyney 47-25. Bowie also held an advantage from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs were 26-33 while Cheyney was 6-11.
